A Hundred and ninety five Students from Kitui County have benefitted under the Equity Group Foundation’s Elimu scholarship Programme and Jomo Kenyatta Foundation this year. The 197 students are from each of the county’s three regions — Kitui, Mwingi and Mutomo that have their own Equity Bank branch. Kitui branch selected 93 students, Mwingi branch had 70 and Mutomo Branch Selected 32 needy and deserving students.
Equity Bank kitui branch manager Francis Mbindyo flagged off Kitui’s 2022 students at event held at Aic Township on Thursday, 2nd February 2023 and Kitui Central Deputy County Commissioner Dorcas Ronoh was the Chief guest at this event.The beneficiaries was accompanied by parents and Guardians.

“This day becomes the beginning of your academic journey. This is not your scholarship. This is a community scholarship. It is not a bank scholarship,” explained Mbindyo adding that their focus is on the maximum impact education has in the society.
According to Mbindyo, Kitui Town Equity branch received over 13000 applications and all of them deserved but they shortlisted applicants who appeared for the interview from whom we selected ninety three beneficiaries.
One of the board members of the selective committees, Ken Musambi has urged more partners and sponsors to come on board for the good of the education in Kitui. He also asked parents to nurture the children well to be disciplined and good leaders.
