Mr. Sean Ikunga, Managing Director(MD) of Alpha Fitness Centre(AFC), officiated the opening of Alpha Watoto Fitness(AWF)on Saturday, August 26th, 2023, in Ngiini Village, Kitui Central.

Alpha Fitness Centre believes in the scientific research that has been trialled and tested that children who regularly exercise have better mental and physical health; as well as stable emotional resistant that equates to lower rates of mental illness.

During the childrens’ short August holiday, Alpha Fitness Centre launched Alpha Watoto Fitness (AWF) – Holiday Camp which involved children participating in physical activities and social activities with psychological relaxation inputs to enhance mental wellbeing. After the two-week program, the children were awarded participation certificates to acknowledge their hard work, which intern boosted their self-esteem.

Speaking exclusively with Hopkin reporter, the MD reported that “regular physical activity has a positive impact on cardiorespiratory fitness, the development of bones and muscles, weight control, and the reduction of symptoms related to anxiety and depression”.

Whilst technology is brilliant for children to keep up with the rest of the world, there needs to be a balance to maintaining and nurturing the young minds.

There is evidence to suggest that alot of social media exposure to the kids has negative mental and psychological impact on our youths in this day and age, and we need to equip them with strategies.

This will include but not limited to relaxation techniques and talking about their emotions and feelings – HOLISTIC FITNESS APPROACH!! Hence, the Alpha brand is a pioneering fitness regime for children in Kitui to become a part and parcel of their way of life.

“Experts say physical activity allows children to have a better outlook on life by building confidence, managing anxiety and depression, and increasing self-esteem and cognitive skills.”

Let’s start them young!!!

This comes after the official launch of the Alpha (New Beginnings) brand by the founder, who is a mental health professor in London, Prof. Dr. Sheila Kalunga Ikunga and Hon.
