Alpha Judo Club Kitui Gets a Major Boost with Arrival of Kenya Judo Federation National Coach

284

Alpha Judo Club Kitui has secured the services of the Kenya Judo Federation’s National Coach on a full-time basis. With over three decades of experience at the global stage, the coach has trained and mentored athletes who have brought home medals and recognition for Kenya in international competitions.

The move marks a historic turning point for local martial arts, with Kitui now set to become a hub of judo excellence in Kenya.

Speaking to Hopkin Digital, Prof. Dr. Sheila Kalunga, CEO and Founder of Alpha New Beginnings (ANBF), the organization behind Alpha Judo Club, expressed her excitement at what this means for the community.

“This is not just about sports; this is about building a stronger, healthier, and more disciplined society. Judo provides physical fitness, mental resilience, and life skills that go beyond the mat. We are inviting young people, parents, and schools across Kitui to take advantage of this opportunity,” said Prof. Dr. Kalunga.

The National Coach, who is celebrated as the only holistic Judo coach in Kenya, brings a unique approach to training. His method combines elite Judo technique, mental health and wellness, as well as academic discipline to improve school performance.

Through this model, the program is designed not only to produce elite athletes but also to nurture responsible, high-achieving young citizens.

One of the flagship initiatives under the new program is “Judo in Schools”, supported by the National Olympic Committee of Kenya (NOC-K) and the Kenya Judo Federation President, Mr. Shadrack Maluki. The program will integrate Judo into school activities, helping students channel their energy into constructive pursuits while learning discipline, respect, and teamwork.

Prof. Dr. Kalunga further urged the community to embrace the opportunity.

“Alpha Judo Club Kitui is open to everyone whether you’re joining for fitness, self-defense, or to pursue a competitive career in the sport. Parents, we want your children to be part of this journey. Schools, let’s partner to raise a generation of champions in sport and in life.”

The club is now enrolling new members, with training sessions scheduled throughout the week at its Kitui base.
