Irate mob almost killed two suspected thugs who were caught red-handed stealing from a tenant who resides in a flat within THOME WA AKRISTO which is in Kitui Town today in the afternoon.The two suspects where treated to blows and kicks from the mob and where almost lynched with petrol, an attempt which was altered by the police after they were tipped about the incident.
According to eyewitnesses as well as the owner of the house is that was broken into, one Albert Mungai, he was informed that two people had broken into his house as he was in town working and he immediately rushed to his house with bodaboda riders, whereby upon arrival they found a car which was to be used to ferry his valuables with two occupants who are believed to be part of the gang.
When the two suspects noticed that they had been cornered they sped off from the parking lot of the apartment leaving the other two suspects inside the house they had intended to steal from.Upon entering his house the owner and irrate mob, found two men stealing electronics and they confessed to have been directed by one unknown mastermind of the gang who resides in the area,the houses to steal from,since the tenants are always working during the day away from their homes.
After the suspects confessed , they were given thorough beating by the area residents who now are asking the area police to investigate and apprehend the main suspect since he’s well known to the suspects, who had travelled all the way from mathare slums in Nairobi to come steal valuables in Kitui.Tenants and residents in Kitui especially those residing within site estate, which is near THOME WA AKRISTO for a while have been experiencing random burglary attacks where thieves break into their houses and steal valuables as well as their car accessories.
“When police arrived at the scene, they found one of the the suspects naked and had been immersed in petrol while the crowd waited for more petrol to be used to burn them as they had sent someone to buy it,” said eye witness The suspects are now in police custody, according to Hopkin Digital reports.
Meanwhile, the police are reminding members of the public that mob justice is unlawful and when they apprehend suspects, they should take them to the nearest police.The suspects comes from Mathare one of collection of slums in Nairobi with a population of approximately 500,000 people in Nairobi county.
