Flamboyant Kitui east politician Militonic Mwendwa Kimanzi alias Kitute has been arrested by Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission detectives.
EACC sleuths raided Kitute’s Chuluni home in the dead of the night and nabbed him after months of hide and seek over numerous cases of impersonation and forgery.
An illegally owned loaded gun, seven mobile phones and fake EACC staff identity cards believed to be used by Kitute to swindle unsuspecting Kenyans were among items recovered from him.
He was whisked away to Nairobi for questioning at Integrity Centre and later placed in custody at Kilimani Police Station in the capital.
A statement released by anti graft body describes Kitute as armed and dangerous criminal who has been conning Kenyans while impersonating EACC Detectives.
He is alleged to have issued fake Integrity Clearance Cetificates to job seekers at a fee, in the names of top EACC officials, has been arrested.
“The serial imposter, who has a conviction history and unsuccessfully vied for a Parliamentary seat in the 2022 general elections, was arrested weekend and is currently detained at Kilimani Police Station” reads the EACC statement.
Kitute contested the Kitui East parliamentary seat for the third time in 2022 on a Wiper Democratic Movement ticket, but came a respectable second, after MP Nimrod Mbai.
This is not the first time Kitute is being arrested for impersonation and forgery. He has several cases pending in court.
He is expected to be charged at Milimani Law Courts today.
