CHANGE OF GUARD IN THE MAJORITY PARTY LEADERSHIP

On Wednesday, September 4, 2024, Hon. Harrison Maluki Mawia (Migwani) and Hon. Bonface Mukwate Katula (Kanyangi) officially assumed office as the new Leader of the Majority Party and Majority Party Whip of the House, respectively. The duo replaced Hon. Munyoki Mwinzi (Kyuso) and Hon. Daniel Kimanzi Ngoima (Township), who had served in the respective roles of Leader of the Majority Party and Majority Party Whip.

This change marks a significant shift in the leadership dynamics within the Majority Party, reflecting a strategic decision by the party members.

The announcement was made by County Assembly Speaker, Hon. Kevin Kinengo Katisya, during the morning sitting. The Speaker communicated to the Honourable House that, in compliance with Standing Orders Nos. 15 (8), (9), and (10), the Majority Party Whip had submitted a letter, along with minutes and resolutions of the party members dated September 3, 2024.

 

The letter addressed the decision made by the Majority Party regarding the leadership positions, confirming the changes that had been reached collectively.

Speaker Kinengo detailed the contents of the letter, stating that Hon. Munyoki Mwinzi had been removed as the Leader of the Majority Party with immediate effect, replaced by Hon. Harrison Maluki Mawia. Similarly, Hon. Daniel Kimanzi Ngoima had been removed as the Majority Party Whip, with Hon. Bonface Mukwate Katula stepping into the role immediately.

In his remarks, Speaker Kinengo congratulated the newly appointed leaders, expressing his support and confidence in their ability to serve effectively in their new capacities.

The Speaker urged all members of the County Assembly to offer their full cooperation and support to the new leadership, emphasizing the importance of unity and teamwork.

He also took the opportunity to acknowledge the outgoing Leader of the Majority Party, Hon. Munyoki Mwinzi, and Majority Party Whip, Hon. Daniel Kimanzi Ngoima, thanking them for their dedicated service to the House and wishing them success in their future endeavours.
