On Thursday, 15th May, 2025 Chief Officer for Public Health and Sanitation, Lynn Kitwan, has issued a strong caution to residents after a snakebite incident involving a one year old boy from Kwa-Vonza.

The child was bitten on the left foot by a highly venomous Red Spitting Cobra. He was immediately rushed to Kitui County Referral Hospital (KCRH) where he received three vials of snakebite anti-venom as emergency treatment.

During her visit to the patient, CO Kitwan emphasized the critical importance of immediate hospital care in the event of a snakebite, warning that delays can lead to severe complications or even death.

“We urge all residents not to waste time with home remedies. Take snakebite victims to the nearest hospital immediately. Our facilities are well stocked with snakebite anti-venom and equipped to handle such emergencies,” she said.

CO Lynn Kitwan reiterated that timely response can make the difference between life and death in snakebite cases. She called on residents to remain alert, especially in snake prone areas, and to seek medical help without delay, noting that health facilities are equipped with the necessary snakebite anti-venom to manage such emergencies effectively.
