Community Health Volunteers (CHVs) to be trained on Eye healthcare

Carmicheal Nduri Senior Manager Programs for Fred Hollows Foundation paid a courtesy call to Kitui Executive Committee for Health and Sanitation Ruth Koki in her office.

Madam Koki speaking during the courtesy call, she acknowledged the training of the CHVs on eye healthcare will be a milestone towards provisions of better healthcare at the grassroots level.

Koki further added, after the training the CHVs will be able to offer all-rounded basic healthcare. Faith Mutinda the Deputy Director Public Health said: “ the CHVs will be trained on the Primary Eye Care Module (PEC), which will enable them to identify, screen and refer the patient to a clinic or an outreach.”

The training of the CHVs on eye healthcare will part of the Sustainable Model for Eye Health Financing Programme (SMEHF) to be rolled out by the foundation.

Fred Hollows Foundation is an international development organization working towards eliminating avoidable blindness and vision loss in the developing countries across the globe.
