On Monday 4th December, 2023, The County Assembly Committee on Culture, Youth, Sports, Gender and Social Service led by the Chairperson Hon. Judith Wanza (Nuu) yesterday joined the Cabinet Secretary for Sports Hon. Ababu Namwamba at the Nyayo Stadium during the launch of Talanta Hela National Finals under 19 football tournament.
The tournament which kicked off yesterday 3rd December, will culminate on December 12th at Nyayo stadium where the winner will pocket Ksh. 5 Million. The tournament has 16 teams in both boys’ and girls’ category where Kitui is being represented by girl’s football team which is pooled together with Machakos, Uasin Gishu and Nakuru in Group D. Pool A consists of Kakemega, Kwale, Busia and Nandi while Pool B draws Wajir, West Pokot, Homabay and Kisii. Lastly Group C consists of Nyeri, Samburu, Kisumu and Nairobi.
In Boys category, poll A consist of Garissa, Kericho, Vihiga and Homabay while Group B brings together Nyeri, Baringo, Kisumu and Nyamira. Pool C has Mombasa, Marsabit, West Pokot and Kirinyaga while Group D encompasses Kiambu, Nakuru, Uasin Gishu and Makueni.
Hon. Judith applauded the initiative saying that it offers a platform to upcoming talent to showcase their abilities and nurture their talents.
In his speech, CS Namwamba opined that he is proud of the growth of the tournament and that he is optimistic it will be a channel for the growth of national team Harambee Stars in future. ‘’We began this journey on August 15th and I am delighted that we are here to witness the national finals. We are looking forward to a good tournament, a brilliant display of skills and talents as well as entertaining football’’, Namwamba added.
