On May 8th, 2024, Hon. Peninah Malonza, the Cabinet Secretary for East African Community, ASALs, and Regional Development, welcomes Namibian President Nangolo Mbumba to Kenya. President Mbumba’s arrival at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport at 3:40 pm marked the beginning of a significant diplomatic engagement between Kenya and Namibia.

CS Malonza’s presence as the escort of honor underscored the importance of President Mbumba’s visit, highlighting the strong ties between Kenya and Namibia. This diplomatic gesture reflects the commitment of both nations to fostering cooperation and collaboration in various spheres, including political, economic, and agricultural development.

President Mbumba’s visit coincided with the Africa Fertilizer and Soil Health Summit convened by the African Union, further amplifying the significance of his presence in Kenya. As heads of state from across the African continent converged in Nairobi for the summit, the focus turned towards addressing the pressing issue of declining soil quality, which poses a significant threat to agricultural productivity and food security in Africa.

The summit provided a platform for leaders to engage in substantive discussions and formulate strategies aimed at addressing the challenges posed by deteriorating soil health. By coming together to tackle this common concern, African nations reaffirmed their collective commitment to sustainable agricultural practices and ensuring the future prosperity of the continent.
