The Kitui County Assembly’s groundbreaking Bunge Mashinani program entered its second day today, following its official launch on Monday, November 18, 2024, at Migwani AIC Primary School in Migwani Ward, Mwingi West Constituency.

The groundbreaking initiative, launched by Speaker Hon. Kevin Kinengo Katisya at Migwani AIC Primary School, is set to run until Friday, November 22.

Designed to decentralize legislative activities, the program brings plenary and committee sittings closer to residents, fostering public participation and engagement in legislative matters. Speaker Kinengo urged residents to attend the sessions in large numbers, emphasizing the importance of their involvement in shaping county governance.

As part of its activities, the Assembly delegation conducted an inspection tour of Migwani Level IV Hospital to assess its current condition. Led by Speaker Kinengo, members identified several challenges, including a non-functional theater, a stalled kitchen project, and a dilapidated laundry area lacking essential equipment.

The Speaker vowed to push the Health and Sanitation Committee to urgently address the hospital’s issues and advocate for additional funding to improve the facility. During the visit, the Assembly members also distributed gift packs to inpatients as a gesture of goodwill.

The program also featured community engagement activities aimed at strengthening ties between the Assembly and local residents. The Assembly’s volleyball team participated in a friendly match against a local club, fostering cohesion and integration. The event served as an opportunity for informal interactions, reinforcing the Assembly’s commitment to community involvement beyond legislative functions.

The Bunge Mashinani program is being broadcast live on the County Assembly of Kitui’s Facebook and YouTube platforms, allowing residents across the county to follow proceedings. Speaker Kinengo expressed optimism that the initiative would leave a positive impact on Migwani and Mwingi West residents while laying a foundation for broader public involvement in governance. Plans are underway to expand the program to other sub-counties in the coming years.
