In a statement request delivered under the provisions of Standing Order No 41 (2) (c) Kyangwithya West MCA and Deputy Speaker Christopher Nzilu Nzioka addressed the County Assembly, highlighting the pressing issue of the incomplete grading works at Kavou–Ndumoni road.
He underscored the importance of this project for the local community, emphasizing its critical role in facilitating transportation and economic activities within the ward.
Nzilu Nzioka pointed out that the grading program, initially set to cover 70 kilometers, faced an abrupt halt on July 22, 2024, when the assigned grader was recalled to work at the Kitui Ithookwe Show Grounds.
To date, only 16 kilometers have been completed, leaving the road impassable and causing significant inconvenience. Despite multiple follow-ups with Principal Engineer Fred Mulandi, there has been no progress, leaving the community in a state of frustration and concern.
Highlighting the broader impact of unmaintained roads, Nzilu Nzioka expressed concern over the increased transportation costs and economic inefficiencies that have arisen due to the stalled project. He emphasized that further neglect would lead to expensive repairs, thus straining public resources.
Hon Nzilu Nzioka called for the Committee on Lands, Infrastructure, and Urban Development to provide a detailed report within 21 days, outlining efforts to reinstate the grader, the Ministry’s capacity to undertake similar programs, and strategies for completing additional identified roads.
Nzilu Nzioka’s statement concluded with a plea for accountability and a commitment from the county Ministry to ensure that the residents of Kyangwithya West Ward receive the essential services promised under the Constitution of Kenya 2010.
He listed specific roads requiring attention and reiterated the need for a thorough inquiry to bring resolution and progress to the ward’s infrastructure challenges.
