DG Kanani Urges Kitui People To Keep Safe Amid Heavy Downpour

On Thursday 9th November 2023, Kitui Deputy Governor Wambua Kanani has urged people in flood-prone areas to remain cautious during this rainy season.

DG Kanani made these remarks when he inspected Kakea Earth Dam in Kivou Ward, Mwingi Central Sub-county, part of the spillway has been washed after heavy rains were rains experienced in the area.

People were also cautioned to look out as strong winds may blow off, uproot trees, and cause structural damage.

Residents are advised to avoid driving through or walking in moving water or open fields and not to shelter under trees and near grilled windows when it’s raining to minimise exposure to lightning strikes,” Kanani cautioned.

Engineers from the ministry of water led by Director Mutati assessed the imminent danger and gave recommended actions to mitigate the dam collapse.

Agriculture Minister Dr Kimwele Mbaya has called on Kitui residents to use the rains to plant more food crops to be more food secure while taking all precautions.

Others present were MCA Mr Munyithya of Kivou Ward, Ms Francisca Kyui Chief Officer for Performance Contracting and Disaster Management, Mwingi Central Sub-county Administrator and other government officials.
