DG Kanani Warns Against Flood Risks as He Condoles with Bereaved Families

Kitui County Deputy Governor, H.E. Wambua Kanani, condoles with the families of Agnes Mwalimu of Kisayani, Mutomo Ward in Kitui South Subcounty, and Josephine Kasyoka Mwove of Kiatine, Kauwi Ward in Kitui West Subcounty.

On both occasions, H.E. Kanani warned residents to avoid flooded rivers and other water bodies, stating, _”We encourage our people to exercise utmost caution when approaching water bodies during this rainy season. We do not want to record any fatalities among our people.”_

Certain areas in Kitui have occasionally experienced flash floods, leading to tragic deaths and leaving families in grief, often due to people carelessly engaging in avoidable water-related situations.

In Kisayani, the family of the late Agnes Mwalimu, 60, remembered her sacrifices in ensuring her relatives received an education, particularly when she sold all her belongings—including a donkey—to help Francisca Kanza Kyui return to secondary school. Francisca Kyui is now the Chief Officer in charge of Performance Contracting, Disaster, and Emergency Services in the County Government of Kitui. _”My sister sold everything she had to keep me in school. She has left behind her husband, nine children, and several grandchildren. I pray for God’s strength to support them,”_ mourned Francisca.

In Kitui West, the family of the late Josephine Mwove, mother to Honourable Austine Nduu, shared how she endured a short battle with cancer. H.E. Kanani urged residents to prioritize their health, saying, _*”Let us visit our KCRH for cancer screenings. Our hospital has one of the best cancer facilities in Kenya, and early detection is key.”

The late Josephine will be remembered for dedicating her 75 years to family and community leadership, including serving as a village elder responsible for security in the entire Iiani village. She was actively involved in community development, particularly in education, security, public participation, and social awareness. She is survived by 10 children and many grandchildren.
