Dr. Anastasia Nyalita, the County Executive Committee Member (CECM) for Business and Hustler Opportunities, Nairobi City County, chaired a strategic meeting at the Weights and Measures Complex in South C to assess progress on the county’s upcoming automated liquor licensing system. The session focused on key agenda items, including the dissemination of liquor mapping data, evaluating the readiness for the system’s rollout, and planning strategies to enhance compliance and revenue collection. The system, set to be officially launched later this month by Governor Sakaja, is poised to revolutionize liquor management in the county.
During the meeting, Dr. Nyalita commended county officers for their dedication to ensuring effective governance and aligning their efforts with Governor Sakaja’s vision of a well-organized Nairobi. She expressed optimism about the system’s transformative potential, highlighting its ability to streamline the licensing process. By facilitating online applications and approvals, the system will eliminate the need for physical visits to county offices, significantly reducing paperwork and travel costs for business owners while improving service efficiency.
The new integrated system is expected to address key challenges in the liquor industry. It will eliminate fake or duplicate licenses, ensuring that only legally compliant establishments operate within Nairobi. Additionally, the platform will allow liquor outlet owners to receive real-time updates and notifications directly from the county government, replacing outdated methods like print media. This timely communication will enhance transparency and foster stronger partnerships between the county and business operators.
Dr. Nyalita emphasized that Nairobi City County is setting a precedent as the first in Kenya to implement a fully integrated technological solution for liquor licensing and management. This system demonstrates the county’s commitment to innovation, efficiency, and accountability in public service delivery. Once operational, it is expected to streamline compliance processes, boost revenue collection, and strengthen the regulatory framework for liquor outlets.
The system’s launch will also create job opportunities for enforcement officers tasked with ensuring compliance with the new regulations. These officers will play a critical role in monitoring licensed businesses and addressing violations, contributing to a safer and more orderly environment within the county. Their deployment is planned to coincide with the system’s launch, which Governor Sakaja and Dr. Nyalita will officially unveil later this month.
Dr. Nyalita concluded by reaffirming her commitment to supporting the business community while prioritizing public safety and health. As Nairobi City County gears up for the launch of the automated system, stakeholders are optimistic about its potential to transform the liquor management landscape and position Nairobi as a leader in leveraging technology for governance.
