Dr. Augustus Kyalo Muli, the National Patron of the Anzauni Clan, has officially petitioned President William Ruto, urging his administration to increase representation for the Kamba community in government and prioritize the completion of stalled development projects in Ukambani. The petition emphasizes the need for inclusivity in leadership and faster implementation of critical infrastructure projects to address long-standing socio-economic challenges in the region.
In his letter to the president, Dr. Muli highlighted the underrepresentation of the Kamba community in key government positions. He pointed out that Ukambani, which encompasses Machakos, Kitui, and Makueni counties, has only one Cabinet Secretary, despite its significant population and political influence. The patron called for the appointment of additional Cabinet and Principal Secretaries to ensure fair representation and equity in national governance.
The petition also brought attention to the urgent need to complete stalled national projects that are vital to the region’s economic growth. Key among these are the Thwake Multipurpose Dam and Umaa Dam, both of which are critical for addressing water scarcity and supporting agriculture. Infrastructure projects like the Kibwezi-Kitui-Migwani-Mbondoni and Mwingi-Kamuwongo-Tseikuru roads were also emphasized for their potential to boost trade and connectivity within the region.
Dr. Muli underscored the importance of these projects in alleviating poverty and improving living standards. He noted that delays in their completion have eroded public trust in government programs and hindered the region’s ability to contribute meaningfully to national growth. He further highlighted the need for investments in schools, hospitals, and the Last Mile Electricity Connectivity Program to transform rural livelihoods.
The petition referenced the strong political support Ukambani offered President Ruto during the 2022 General Elections. Dr. Muli described this goodwill as an indication of the community’s readiness to align with the government’s development agenda. He appealed to the president to honor this commitment by providing the region with greater representation and development resources.
Focusing on the principles of equity and inclusivity enshrined in the Kenyan Constitution, Dr. Muli argued that addressing these concerns would not only uplift Ukambani but also foster national cohesion. He stated that ensuring balanced development across regions would strengthen the relationship between the government and the people, promoting trust and unity.
The Anzauni Clan expressed confidence in President Ruto’s leadership and pledged their continued support for his administration. They urged the president to take swift action on their requests to demonstrate his commitment to fairness and inclusivity. As of now, the president’s office has yet to issue a response to the petition.
