There was drama in Naivasha town on Wednesday after two men – suspected of having stolen a cow – returned the animal after the intervention of a revered witch doctor.
According to the narrative, the two suspected thieves were ‘arrested’ by the powers of Dr Sumba, a traditional medicine man who cast a spell on them after the cow’s owner sought his assistance.
For over 40 minutes, business in the town came to a stand still as the two men who appeared to be in a trance were paraded in the town for all to see, with the stolen cow tagging alongside them.
As they matched within the town, one of the suspects chewed a huge ball of grass while his colleague writhed in pain under the attack of bees.
With the crowd growing bigger, the local police emerged and arrested the suspects and sped off with them to the witch doctor’s den within Kayole estate in the outskirts of the town. It was claimed that they had gone to be freed from the evil spell. The two suspects were later locked up in police cells at Naivasha police station.
The owner of the pricey cow identified as Miriam Nyambura told the gathering that the animal was stolen a week ago but despite reporting the matter to the police, its recovery was not successful.
She said that she then opted to consult the traditional medicine man.
“I reported the matter to the police and obtained an OB report but they seemed to be taking long. That prompted me to seek other alternatives. I am happy I have my cow back,” said Nyambura as members of the public jostled to catch a glimpse of the suspects.
Kimani Kamau, one of the residents of Kayole estate in the outskirts of Naivasha town described the act as a big lesson to other would-be thieves and robbers who terrorize innocent Kenyans.
“I lost my motor vehicle not long ago to thieves and I have not recovered it yet. We are excited by these other alternative ways to resolve thefts and disputes,” stated Kamau.
On his part, the feared Dr Sumba said that he works closely with the police to curb crimes in the society.
He clarified that when a complaint is made to him, he asks the complainant to first make a formal report with the police before he can swing into action with his voodoo charms.
“I cannot handle your case unless you have made a formal police report. Once I confirm that, then I go ahead and use my powers to get the criminals,” the said doctor Sumba asserted.
He claimed that once he casts his supernatural spells, whatever has been stolen cannot be sold until the thieves own up and return it.
