Dr. Vincent Munyoki was officially installed as the patron of the Kitui West Scouts Association on Friday, July 19th, 2024. The investiture ceremony took place at the Kauwi Primary School grounds, and it was led by Ms. Winnie Ndolo, the Kitui County Commissioner of Scouts.
This significant event marked a new chapter for the Scouts Association in the region, aiming to bolster the support and development of young scouts under Dr. Munyoki’s leadership.
In his speech during the ceremony, Dr. Vincent Munyoki emphasized the importance of scouting in the community and urged Kitui Governor Dr. Julius Malombe to allocate funds specifically for the scouts in Kitui County.
He highlighted the crucial role that scouts play in society, fostering leadership, community service, and personal development among the youth. Dr. Munyoki’s call for financial support underscores his commitment to enhancing the scouting experience and ensuring its sustainability in the county.
Dr. Munyoki also appealed to the National Agency for the Campaign Against Drug Abuse (NACADA) to extend its support to the Kenya Scouts Association.
He pointed out that NACADA’s public education and awareness campaigns against drug abuse, particularly among the youth in schools and higher learning institutions, align with the objectives of the scouts. By partnering with NACADA, the scouts can further strengthen their efforts to educate and protect young people from the dangers of drug abuse.
The purpose of scouting, as reiterated during the event, is to contribute to the holistic development of young people. This includes their physical, intellectual, social, spiritual, emotional, and character growth. Scouting programs, events, and activities provide young individuals with the opportunities to develop as responsible citizens and community members. Through these initiatives, scouts become proactive agents of positive change, inspiring others to take similar actions in their communities.
The Kenya Scouts Association (KSA), established by an Act of Parliament (Cap 219 of the Laws of Kenya), is a prominent member of the World Organization of the Scouting Movement. It is the largest scout movement in Africa and the sixth largest in the world, boasting over 2 million scouts supported by a team of more than 40,000 trained scout leaders.
The investiture of Dr. Vincent Munyoki as the patron of the Kitui West Scouts Association is a testament to the ongoing efforts to strengthen and expand the scouting movement in Kenya.
