The 2025 Mashujaa Day Energy Week officially commenced in Kitui County today with a tree planting exercise at Ithookwe Primary School, led by Energy Principal Secretary Alex Wachira, Petroleum PS Mohammed Liban, and Kitui Deputy Governor H.E. Augustine Kanani.

The week-long event, themed “Transforming Lives Through Sustainable Energy Solutions,” is being hosted at Kitui Teachers Training College from October 13th to 19th, 2025.

Energy Week brings together key players from across Kenya’s energy sector, including the national and county governments, development partners, and private sector actors. The event will feature technology exhibitions, the launch of new energy projects, and public awareness campaigns on clean and renewable energy solutions.

Speaking during the launch, PS Wachira emphasized the government’s commitment to expanding access to affordable and sustainable power for all Kenyans, noting that Kitui’s hosting of the event underscores its growing role in Kenya’s energy transition.

Currently, the County Government of Kitui, in partnership with the Rural Electrification and Renewable Energy Corporation (REREC), is implementing 11 energy projects across the county through a matching fund initiative — where both the county and REREC contribute equal amounts to support electrification programs.

Among the ongoing projects are:

Kiasa Maximization in Kitui Central, Kweluu Market/Catholic Maximization in Mwingi West, Mangelu–Kwa Kioko–Matinga Shopping Centre Line in Kitui West, Mwangeni–Ngomano–Kandong’o Primary School Line in Kitui East, and Kamakumbi Maximization in Mwingi North.

The Energy Week serves as a prelude to the 2025 Mashujaa Day National Celebrations, scheduled for Monday, October 20th, 2025, at Ithookwe Stadium in Kitui. The national event will be presided over by H.E. President Dr. William Ruto, and will also feature Deputy President Prof. Kithure Kindiki, Prime Cabinet Secretary Dr. Musalia Mudavadi, Kitui Governor Dr. Julius Malombe, and several Cabinet and Principal Secretaries.

Also present at the Energy Week launch were REREC CEO Rose Ndanu, Kitui County Commissioner Kipchumba Rutto, and several County Executive Committee Members.
