Father Julius Muthamba Urges Early Distribution of Grade 9 CBC Textbooks

Holy Family Kabati parish priest, Father Julius Muthamba, has called on the national government, through the Ministry of Education, to prioritize the early distribution of CBC textbooks for Grade 9.

He stressed that the delay in providing these essential learning materials is placing an unnecessary burden on parents, who are already struggling with time and finances to procure the textbooks. According to Father Muthamba, this situation is overwhelming for many families, particularly as the demands of the new Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC) continue to grow.

During a consultative forum held on Saturday, 28th September 2024, with teachers from various schools in Kitui West constituency, Father Muthamba addressed the challenges teachers face in managing classrooms under the CBC system.

He emphasized the need for continuous teacher training to ensure they are equipped with the right skills to mold young learners and lay a strong foundation, as outlined by CBC guidelines. He expressed concern that without proper resources and training, the quality of education might suffer.

In addition to concerns about textbooks and teacher preparedness, Father Muthamba urged parents, teachers, and school administrators to take the issue of student safety seriously. With a rise in school fire tragedies, he called for a united effort to ensure security both in and out of school. He stressed that safeguarding students must be a priority, especially as the nation continues to experience these disturbing incidents.

Father Muthamba’s plea comes shortly after a devastating fire tragedy at Endarasha, where 18 students lost their lives and were buried earlier in the week. He highlighted the urgent need for intervention to prevent further tragedies, warning that such incidents, if left unchecked, would continue to undermine the quality of education and the well-being of students across the country.
