President William Ruto announced the unfortunate incident, revealing that a military chopper carrying General Ogolla and other senior KDF officials crashed in the Sindar area, at the border of West Pokot and Elgeyo Marakwet Counties.

The helicopter had taken off from Cheptulel Boys Secondary School before the accident occurred. Sadly, General Ogolla was among the nine military officials who lost their lives in the crash. Two survivors were airlifted to Nairobi for urgent medical care.

General Ogolla was appointed as the Chief of Defence Forces by President Ruto on April 28, 2023, succeeding General Francis Kibochi. Before his appointment as CDF, Ogolla had served as the Vice Chief of the Defence Forces. He was sworn into office at State House Nairobi on April 19, with President Ruto praising his distinguished career and expressing confidence in his leadership.

The nation mourns the loss of a dedicated and esteemed military leader, and our thoughts are with the families and loved ones of all those affected by this tragedy.
