GOVERNOR MALOMBE (EGH) HOSTED NEMA OFFICIALS TODAY

Kitui Governor Dr Julius Malombe (EGH) had a discussion with a delegation from the National Environment Management Authority (NEMA) today at his office in Kitui.

Led by NEMA Chairperson Eric Mungai (MBS), the team sought a conversation on the environmental challenges in Kitui and possible solutions in the areas of sustainable waste management, sand harvesting, tree planting and growing, water pollution and formation of County Environment Committee.

In his remarks, Governor Malombe said the county will collaborate with NEMA in the management of solid waste, community sensitization for culture change to institute waste segregation, tree growing, climate change adaptation and mitigation and the entrenchment of environmental education and awareness creation through the media to reach the people on issues of environment and climate change.

The governor further said Kitui will continue working with different national government entities in areas that enhance and improve the peoples’ livelihoods.The county has factored 1.5% of development budget for climate change adaptation and mitigation.

The county government has also put aside sh. 120 million for construction of sand dams in the current financial year. The long-run sand dams construction targets 2,400 sand dams across Kitui.
