Governor Malombe Hosts CDC Deputy Director Dr Jennifer

On Thursday 16th February 2023, Kitui County Governor Dr Julius Malombe (EGH) held a Consultative meeting with the US Center For Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) Kenya Deputy director Dr. Jennifer Galbraith.

For more than 40 years the Us Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has helped strengthen Kenya’s Public health and laboratory system and operate an integrated research center.

CDC Kenya implement program funded by the U.S president emergency plan for AIDS relief (PEPFAR) the U.S President Malaria INITIATIVE (PMI) and the global Health security Agenda (GHSA).

Dr Jennifer speaking during meeting said Kitui county benefited with 30,000 dollar during the COVID-19 pandemic and in last three years CDC had spend Ksh 670 Million in the county. Dr. Jennifer added that the US will continue supporting Kitui’s efforts to expand and strengthen HIV prevention, care, treatment, and surveillance

“For the first time in January 2023 we started funding directly kitui County with 10,000 dollars and we are really hoping to grow our partnership with Kitui County,” Ms Jennifer

Dr. Malombe said the partnership is highly valued and all finds would be used in a transparent and most accountable manner.

Present during the meeting held at governor’s board room was new County executive committee members and Chief Officers and CDC officials, Dr. Emily Koech of the Centre for International Health Education and Biosecurity (C.E.O _CIHEB) and Dr. Samuel Mwenda of the Christian Health Associatin of Kenya (CHAK .
