Kitui Governor Dr. Julius Malombe has on Thursday April 10, 2025 signed a landmark Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with B2 Yatta Ranching Cooperative Society in a move geared towards economic empowerment, sustainable development, and improved livelihoods for local residents.

The signing ceremony, held at the Governor’s Office block grounds, brought together officials from both the County Government and B2 Yatta Ranching Cooperative Society, which has a membership of over 4,500 people. The B2 delegation was led by the chairperson, Mr. Vundi Kimanzi.

Present during the event were Members of the County Assembly (MCAs), County Executive Committee Members (CECMs), members of the public, and officials and members of the B2 Yatta Ranching Cooperative Society.

Governor Malombe said the MoU outlines key areas of collaboration between the County Government and the cooperative society, including:

Infrastructure development within the ranch and surrounding areas.

Security enhancement through the construction of a new police post at Katoteni area to safeguard residents and their property.

Technology adoption and value addition to improve livestock production and market access.

Review of the lease term agreement to benefit both the community and the cooperative members.

Environmental conservation through tree planting and other climate-friendly initiatives.

Communication and feedback resolution mechanisms to ensure smooth cooperation and address arising issues amicably.

In his remarks, Governor Malombe emphasized the transformative potential of the partnership, stating:

“This unifies our collective vision for an economically vibrant, secure, and sustainable Kitui County whose people enjoy a high quality of life going forward. Let us all embrace this partnership with optimism, diligence, and a deep sense of responsibility.”

“As we embark on this journey, I urge all stakeholders to remain steadfast in our commitment to the principles outlined in the Memorandum of Understanding that we have signed today — from a people who view themselves as not adequately resourced to a community that fully appreciates the many economic opportunities that God has endowed our county with in order to transform Kitui into a beacon of economic prosperity and social cohesion.”

“let me thank all who have cooperated and worked for the success of this mutually beneficial partnership — that is, the county ministries and the officials in there, the County Assembly of Kitui, and the B2 Yatta management and members. It is now my honor and privilege to reaffirm my dedication to the development of Kitui County for the prosperity of our people.”

On his part, B2 Yatta Ranching Cooperative Society Chairperson Mr. Vundi Kimanzi welcomed the partnership, terming it timely and a major boost to the cooperative’s over 4,500 members.

“This is a game changer for our members. We are optimistic that this partnership will transform the livelihoods of thousands of families who depend on this ranch,” said Mr. Kimanzi.
