431

The Kangu Kangu Water Project is set to be commissioned by the end of June 2025, marking a significant milestone in improving water access in Kitui County. This follows a high-level meeting between Kitui Governor Dr. Julius Malombe and World Vision National Director Gilbert Kamanga, held on February 27, 2025. The project is a product of a strategic partnership between the County Government of Kitui and World Vision, aimed at enhancing water supply, sanitation, hygiene, and nutrition to improve livelihoods in the region. With water scarcity being a persistent challenge in Kitui, the initiative is expected to bring relief to many residents who struggle with limited access to clean water.

A six-member committee has been appointed to oversee the final preparations, ensuring a smooth implementation of the project. Once completed, the Kangu Kangu Water Project will provide an estimated 1.4 million liters of water daily, significantly boosting water availability for domestic and agricultural use. The improved water supply is expected to enhance hygiene and sanitation standards while also supporting local economic activities such as farming and livestock keeping. This initiative aligns with the broader goal of improving public health and reducing waterborne diseases by providing clean and safe drinking water to the community.

Beyond the Kangu Kangu project, both the County Government and World Vision have expressed interest in further collaborations, including the Ngomano Water Project in Kitui East. These initiatives reflect a long-term commitment to addressing water challenges in the county through sustainable partnerships. The meeting was attended by key stakeholders, including Acting CS Agnes Mulewa, several County Executive Committee Members, and senior officials from World Vision. Their collective efforts underscore the importance of multi-sectoral cooperation in tackling critical issues such as water scarcity, ultimately improving the quality of life for Kitui residents.
