Machakos County Governor Wavinya Ndeti has strengthened her administration’s youth empowerment agenda as more than 1,000 trainees graduated today from the Machakos Youth Service (MYS) program. The ceremony, held at the Machakos White House and presided over by Wiper Party Leader Kalonzo Musyoka as the chief guest, marked the completion of months of rigorous technical and vocational training.

The graduands were trained in a wide range of market-driven courses, including plumbing, food and beverage production, motor vehicle mechanics, hairdressing and beauty therapy, electrical and electronic engineering, fashion and design, masonry, event management and DJ skills. The comprehensive curriculum is designed to position the youth for competitiveness in both formal and informal sectors.

In a major boost towards self-reliance, each graduate received essential start-up tools tailored to their respective fields, enabling them to begin income-generating activities immediately. Governor Wavinya said the distribution of tools reflects her administration’s focus on practical empowerment rather than theoretical learning, noting that the county is committed to reducing unemployment by equipping youth with both skills and resources.

Parents, guardians and community leaders present praised the program as a transformative initiative under devolution, lauding the governor for investing directly in young people’s futures. They noted that the MYS program has restored hope for many families and created new pathways for economic stability.

Governor Wavinya reiterated that empowering the youth remains a key pillar of her development strategy, adding that the success of the MYS program demonstrates what counties can achieve when they prioritise human capital. She said the initiative will continue to expand to reach more young people across Machakos County.
