Commuters in the Coastal City of Mombasa have been forced to use alternative means after heavy traffic on the Mombasa- Changamwe highway due to flooded roads.
The heavy downpour started at the wee hours and continued in the better part of Friday causing flooding and left residents dazed and marooned in their homes.
The incessant rain left many roads and streets flooded and littered with debris as the heavy rain yet again exposed the susceptible city infrastructure.
Residents took to social media to express their disappointment at the condition of the roads and posted advisories to apprise people of the situation.
Residents are now calling the County 001 Government to intervene and set up drainage systems to avoid unnecessary flooding.
The weather Man has said heavy rainfall of more than 30mm in 24 hours is likely to continue between Friday the 3rd and Sunday the 5th.The intensity is projected to reduce on Monday the 6th November over the southeastern lowlands and parts of the northeast. These rains are likely to be accompanied by gusty winds.
Hence urging residents to avoid driving through, or walking in moving water or open fields and not to shelter under trees and near grilled windows when raining to minimize exposure to lightning strikes. The strong winds may blow off roofs, uproot trees and cause structural damages.
