The Holy Family Kabati Parish recently witnessed a momentous occasion as the young pupils of its Holy Family Parochial School celebrated their first graduation from PP2 to Grade 1. The event was marked with joy and celebration, with parents, teachers, and the local community coming together to recognize the children’s achievements. The graduation was seen as a stepping stone for the young learners as they embark on their formal primary education journey.
Speaking at the event, Father Julius Muthamba, the Parish Priest, highlighted the importance of education and the challenges many schools in Kenya face due to insufficient financial support. “Many schools across the country are struggling due to a lack of finances and government capitation. The government should focus on addressing critical issues like education rather than wasting time and resources on less urgent matters like politics,” said Father Muthamba. He also urged parents to spend quality time with their children, particularly as the students break for the long December holiday, to instill good morals and discipline in them.
Dr. Vincent Munyoki, a philanthropist, educationist, and founder of the Vincent Munyoki Foundation, also addressed the gathering, encouraging the children to work hard in their studies for a brighter future. “To the young ones, work hard in your studies because your education will change your homes and communities for the better,” he said. He also advised parents not to shy away from investing in quality education, noting that such an investment is crucial for the children’s future success.
Dr. Munyoki further emphasized the need for better health care in schools, calling on the government to consider including health insurance for students as it transitions from NHIF to the Social Health Authority (SHA). “As the government reforms the NHIF, I urge them to consider incorporating health insurance coverage in schools to ensure quality healthcare for students,” he stated. He also extended his best wishes to Grade 6 pupils and Form 4 students as they prepare for their upcoming national exams, wishing them success in their studies.
