On June 30, 2024, Ikanga Kyatune’s Super MCA, Hon Cyrus Musyoka “SONKO,” welcomed Kitui Catholic Church Bishop Joseph Mwongela at St. Paul’s Catholic Parish in Ikanga. The event marked the celebration of the Solemnity of St. Peter and St. Paul, originally scheduled for June 29 but rescheduled due to the Diocesan Pilgrimage.
The ceremony included the Sacrament of Confirmation for 270 confirmands and the enrollment of members into devotional groups, creating a vibrant and spiritually uplifting atmosphere.
Bishop Mwongela used the occasion to impart spiritual wisdom to the congregation. He emphasized the importance of faith and resilience in facing life’s challenges, urging the faithful to trust in God and practice self-care and care for others.
His message highlighted the need for mutual support, love, and harmony, encouraging the community to use their energy for positive actions and to remain strong in their faith, no matter the difficulties they face.
Hon Cyrus Musyoka “SONKO” shared his urge with the congregants to support and pray for Gen Z and Millennials as they effort to bring about a paradigm shift in the leadership and governance of the country.
His call for prayers and support for these younger individuals was met with enthusiastic approval, as he stressed the critical role of youth in the nation’s future. This call to action resonated with the bishop’s earlier messages of faith, resilience, and mutual support.
The event also saw the recognition and enrollment of new members into various devotional groups, with Bishop Mwongela advising them to uphold Christ-like virtues and serve as role models within the community.
The Parish Priest, Rev. Fr. Peter Muvea, and the Parish Moderator both expressed their gratitude to the bishop and the faithful for their participation, reaffirming their commitment to the bishop’s pillars of self-reliance and vocations.
The celebration culminated in a joyous cake-cutting ceremony, marking the 60th anniversary of evangelization by the Catholic Diocese of Kitui.
The vibrant event not only celebrated the historical significance of the Solemnity but also fostered a sense of unity and purpose among the parishioners, highlighting the ongoing spiritual and communal growth within the diocese.
