Hon. Sammy Munyithya, Member of County Assembly (MCA) for Kivou, successfully hosted the third edition of the Sammy Cup, an initiative aimed at keeping the youth engaged in meaningful activities during the holiday season.

The event, attended by Speaker Hon. Kevin Kinengo Katisya and several other MCAs, was a vibrant display of unity and talent. Through this tournament, Munyithya seeks to address critical challenges facing the youth, such as drug and substance abuse, by providing constructive alternatives. The tournament has become a key annual event in Kivou, promoting not only sports but also mental and social well-being.

Speaking at the event, Hon. Munyithya highlighted the tournament’s significance. “The purpose of this is to first occupy the young people with activities that are meaningful, as well as keep them away from activities that may be harmful for them,” he noted. He emphasized that engaging the youth in such initiatives helps build good mental health, fosters a sense of community, and promotes a sense of achievement. Munyithya added that such efforts could have a long-lasting impact, enabling young people to discover their talents and achieve their potential while steering clear of detrimental habits.

Speaker Hon. Kevin Kinengo Katisya praised the initiative and lauded the exceptional talent displayed during the tournament finals for both the men’s and women’s categories. “I watched the finals of the Sammy Cup for both ladies and men, with the teams exhibiting that we have extremely talented young men and women in our county,” said Speaker Kinengo. He commended Hon. Munyithya for his commitment to youth empowerment and for creating a platform where young people could showcase their abilities while learning the value of teamwork and discipline.
