Hyena Attacks Intensify in Kyamatu, Residents Count Losses

806

Residents of Kyamatu Location in Kitui East Constituency are living in fear following repeated attacks by a pack of marauding hyenas. Over the past month, the wild animals have been preying on livestock, leaving a trail of destruction and economic loss. The latest attack occurred in Kamukusu Village, just a kilometer from Kyamatu Market, where six goats belonging to Mr. Geoffrey Kalima were killed. Similar incidents have been reported in Inyokoni and Kyamatu market area, with residents now afraid to leave their homes after dark.

The hyenas, which start howling as early as 8 p.m., have become a major threat to the community. Farmers who depend on livestock for their livelihood are counting heavy losses, as the relentless attacks have left many without their primary source of income. Residents say they have tried scaring the animals away, but the situation persists, and the hyenas seem to have grown bolder. This has raised concerns that if left unchecked, the wild animals could soon pose a danger to human lives.

Frustrated by the ongoing attacks, the residents are calling on the Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS) to step in and remove the deadly beasts. They want immediate action taken to prevent further losses and restore safety in the area. The community is also urging local authorities to intervene and ensure that measures are put in place to protect them from future wildlife invasions. As the crisis worsens, residents hope that KWS will respond swiftly before the situation escalates beyond control.
