Katee Foundation, under the patronage of Hon. Hillary Katee Wa Ndana, spearheaded a major tree-planting initiative on Saturday, 12th April 2025, targeting the planting of 4,000 trees across four primary schools in Kitui Central Constituency. The event, which was graced by Kitui County Commissioner Kipchumba Rutto, marked a key milestone in the foundation’s ongoing efforts to fight climate change and restore forest cover in the Ukambani region. The campaign responds to increasing concerns over rampant deforestation, which has resulted in diminished tree cover and unpredictable weather patterns in the area.

As part of the initiative, the foundation collaborated with LARGER THAN LIFE CONCEPTS and partnered with 27 schools across Kitui County to plant the trees before schools closed for the holiday. This large-scale effort provided a platform for young learners to participate in climate action while fostering awareness about the importance of environmental conservation. By engaging schools, the foundation not only promotes green campuses but also empowers students with the knowledge and values needed to protect the environment.

Speaking during the launch, Commissioner Kipchumba Rutto encouraged residents to embrace tree planting, especially during the ongoing rainy season. He emphasized that environmental conservation is a shared responsibility and called upon the local community to take active roles in restoring the region’s ecological balance. His remarks highlighted the significance of grassroots participation in climate resilience and sustainable development.

This initiative also aligns with President William Ruto’s national reforestation campaign, which seeks to significantly increase Kenya’s forest cover through tree planting. By supporting the president’s vision, Katee Foundation reinforces the importance of collective responsibility in addressing climate change, while showing that meaningful progress can be achieved when local leaders, institutions, and citizens come together for a common cause.

Katee Foundation’s dedication to environmental protection stands as a model for other regions across the country. With strong community involvement, institutional collaboration, and a focus on youth engagement, the foundation is not only planting trees but also planting hope for a greener, more sustainable future in Kitui and beyond.
