The much-awaited Kitui Agricultural Show has officially kicked off at the Ithookwe grounds, running from July 25th to July 27th, 2024. This year’s event, themed “Promoting Climate Smart Agriculture for Food and Nutrition Security and Trade Initiatives for Sustainable Economic Growth,” promises to be a landmark occasion for the county, drawing attention to innovative agricultural practices and sustainable economic strategies.
The opening day saw a vibrant turnout, with thousands of visitors, exhibitors, and stakeholders converging at the venue. The atmosphere was charged with excitement as participants eagerly explored various exhibits showcasing the latest advancements in climate-smart agriculture. From cutting-edge irrigation systems to resilient crop varieties, the show provides a comprehensive platform for farmers to learn about and adopt sustainable agricultural techniques that enhance food security and nutrition.
Today, Deputy Governor Augustine Kanani, alongside Agriculture CECM Dr. Mbaya Kimwele and other CECMs and Chief Officers, made rounds inspecting the various ministry exhibits. Their presence underscored the importance of collaborative efforts across different sectors in promoting sustainable agriculture. The officials engaged with exhibitors, discussing innovative solutions and strategies aimed at boosting agricultural productivity and sustainability in Kitui.
Kitui Governor Dr. Julius Malombe is set to inaugurate the show tomorrow, Friday, July 26th, emphasizing the county’s commitment to advancing agriculture through smart and sustainable practices. In his anticipated address, Governor Malombe is expected to underscore the critical role of climate-smart agriculture in mitigating the impacts of climate change and ensuring a stable food supply. He will also highlight the significance of trade initiatives in driving economic growth and improving livelihoods within the community.
