The Kitui County Assembly Committee on Appointments on Tuesday 30th April 2024, conducted approval hearings for two nominees to the Mwingi Municipality Board.

Led by its esteemed Chair, Speaker Hon. Kevin Kinengo Katisya, the committee rigorously vetted Janet Mueni Maluki and Grace M. Ndetei, who were nominated by the County Public Service Board and the Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Mwingi Branch, respectively.

These nominations come in the wake of previous rejections by the County Assembly in November 2023. Following that rejection, the Committee on Appointments took the responsibility of vetting new nominees.

In an exclusive statement to the press, Miambani ward MCA Hon. Alex Nganga, who is also the Minority leader and a member of the appointment committee, emphasized the urgency of establishing the Mwingi Municipality.

He stressed the need for Governor Dr. Julius Malombe to expedite the process before the end of the financial year. Nganga highlighted the potential benefits of municipality status, such as increased funding opportunities and the ability to attract donors like the World Bank.

Hon Nganga’s concerns underline the importance of timely establishment and operationalization of the municipality, especially given the progress made by the appointment committee in vetting board members.

The appointment committee will retreat for report writing exercise after which they will table the report on the suitability of the nominees to the positions nominated for, before the House for approval.
