“Playing chess needs total involvement and it develops the ability to see from someones else’s perspective because you predict what another person will do next”, said Blessings.
Mr Musyoka, the trainer of chess club Central primary said that chess is like any other co-curriculum activity and it elevates students creativity and thinking skills because Chess games are known for long periods of silent contemplation, during which players consider each move. Players spend time anticipating their opponents’ responses and attempting to predict every eventuality.
“Last year my Headteacher Mr Kaboro said, he want to introduce Chess Game and because I had skills in playing chess, I told him I will train the pupils. I’m very happy because for that one year we have participated in Chess Regionals games and Nationals and now I have two pupils to contest in Continentals game in Egypt September this year”, Said Mr Musyoka.
The Central primary Headteacher Mr Michael Mureithi Kaboro said the reasons he introduced chess game is that he want his pupils to grow with improved cognitive skills like memory, problem-solving, and better planning skills in future life.
He has also urged all well Wishers and government to support them in visa processing for the two pupils who will be contesting in Continental games in Egypt.
“It’s very expensive to take the students to Egypt because the total expenditure in one pupil is more than three twenty one thousands shillings, so we need sponsors for our pupils because I know the two will qualify to compete in inter continental Chess games that will be hosted in Canada”, the head said.
