On Thursday, August 22nd, 2024, the County Government of Kitui, through Chief Officer for Agriculture Gladys Kivoto, entered into a significant partnership with the newly elected Community Driven Development Committees (CDDCs) under the NAVCDP- National Agricultural and Value Chain Development Project.

The Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) signed at the Kitui Agricultural Training Centre (ATC) aims to cement collaboration between the county government and grassroots organizations to promote sustainable agricultural practices tailored to the needs of local farmers.

The agreement is expected to enhance resource allocation, strengthen capacity building, and offer technical support for farmers across Kitui County.

By aligning the activities of the CDDCs with county priorities, the partnership seeks to ensure that community-driven agricultural initiatives are fully responsive to the needs and aspirations of local communities. The initiative focuses on empowering farmers and making agriculture a more viable and productive sector in the region.

During the ceremony, Chief Officer Gladys Kivoto emphasized the significance of community involvement in driving agricultural development.

“This partnership underscores our unwavering commitment to inclusive growth. By closely collaborating with the newly elected CDDCs, we can ensure that the voices of our farmers are at the forefront of our initiatives, leading to projects that truly address their needs,” Ms. Kivoto stated. Her remarks echoed the county government’s dedication to creating a farmer-centric approach in agricultural planning and implementation.

The event saw active participation from CDDC representatives and various county officials, all expressing optimism about the positive impact this partnership will have on the agricultural sector in Kitui County.

The MOU is expected to provide a framework for effective and sustainable agricultural interventions that directly benefit farmers while promoting resilience and innovation at the grassroots level.

As Kitui County continues to prioritize agriculture as a key pillar of its economic development, the collaboration with CDDCs under the NAVCDP signals a renewed focus on community empowerment and localized solutions.

This MOU is anticipated to play a pivotal role in advancing rural growth and ensuring long-term food security in the county.
