Kitui County Assembly Adjourns for April Recess

320

The County Assembly has officially adjourned for its April recess, 2025, following a final sitting that was marked by a call for peace, unity, and reconciliation among Members of the County Assembly (MCAs). The Speaker of the County Assembly, Hon. Kevin Kinengo Katisya, used his Communication from the Chair to remind members of their responsibility to serve the people with integrity and harmony. He expressed concern over the internal wrangles that have affected the Assembly’s performance since resuming from the December break on February 11, 2025.

Speaker Kinengo highlighted the challenges that have faced the Assembly, particularly divisions within the Wiper Party leadership, which he said had slowed down decision-making processes and damaged the Assembly’s image. He urged MCAs to use the recess period as an opportunity for self-reflection and to recommit themselves to unity and effective service delivery. The Speaker emphasized that the Assembly’s success depended on its members’ ability to set aside their differences and work collectively for the benefit of the people.

To stress the importance of peace and reconciliation, Speaker Kinengo quoted the Bible, Romans 12:18, encouraging members to live at peace with everyone. He also pledged to lead unity efforts within the Assembly by promoting dialogue, respect, and teamwork among MCAs. His sentiments were echoed by Hon. Gabriel Munyao, the Kauwi Ward representative, who affirmed that peace was essential for the Assembly’s progress and the realization of its goals.

The motion for adjournment was moved by the Leader of the Majority Party, Hon. Harrison Maluki of Migwani Ward, and seconded by Hon. David Masaku of Mutomo Ward. This was done in accordance with Standing Order No. 24(3) and the approved County Assembly Calendar for 2025. The Assembly is now expected to resume after the April recess, with hopes that MCAs will return with a renewed commitment to unity, peace, and effective leadership.
