The Kitui County Assembly has made a significant decision by unanimously approving Governor Dr. Julius Malombe’s memorandum on the Kitui County Supplementary Appropriation Bill, 2024. This milestone decision was reached during the plenary session on Wednesday, December 11, 2024. The move signifies a major step forward in implementing the county’s development agenda by endorsing changes proposed in the supplementary budget. This budget seeks to align resources with pressing needs in key sectors to enhance service delivery and development initiatives.
The motion to approve the memorandum was moved by Hon. Bonface Katula Mukwate of Kanyangi Ward, a dedicated member of the County Budget and Appropriations Committee. It was seconded by Hon. Erastus Musyoka Mbuno, the Deputy Majority Leader and MCA for Endau/Malalani Ward. The committee’s report emphasized the importance of the proposed reallocations, citing detailed justifications provided by the Governor. These adjustments are aimed at ensuring efficient utilization of the Ksh. 14.8 billion FY 2024/2025 Kitui County Supplementary Budget, which was originally approved on November 13, 2024.
Speaker of the County Assembly, Hon. Kevin Kinengo Katisya, lauded the Budget and Appropriations Committee for its commitment to completing the report. He acknowledged the challenging nature of budget negotiations and commended all members for their collaborative efforts. “Budget is a negotiated process, and this report is as a result of tough negotiations. I really thank you, Honourable Members,” said the Speaker. His remarks highlighted the importance of teamwork and dialogue in achieving consensus on the county’s fiscal priorities.
With the approval of the Governor’s memorandum, the county government is now empowered to implement the revised budget, ensuring funds are directed to critical projects and services. This includes health, infrastructure, and other priority areas essential for the well-being of Kitui residents. The revised budget also aligns with the Governor’s vision of a more responsive and impactful county government. This development underscores the Assembly’s commitment to facilitating development and ensuring resources are allocated efficiently.
