The Political Parties Dispute Tribunal (PPDT) has reinstated the embattled leadership of the Majority Party in the Kitui County Assembly. In a ruling dated June 24, 2025, the Tribunal ruled in favor of Hon. Harrison Maluki Mawia, Hon. Bonface Mukwate Katula, and Hon. Godfrey Muthengi Ndagara, affirming their positions as Leader of Majority, Majority Whip, and Deputy Majority Whip respectively. This decision comes after weeks of internal wrangles within the Wiper Democratic Movement that had seen the three leaders controversially ousted.
While delivering his communication during the afternoon plenary sitting on Wednesday, June 25, 2025, Speaker Hon. Kevin Kinengo Katisya officially informed the House of the tribunal’s verdict. He cited the PPDT determination, which not only confirmed the three members back to their leadership roles but also prohibited the respondents from appointing replacements. The ruling brought clarity to the leadership dispute that had caused tension among party members and disrupted the Assembly’s operations.

The case, which was filed by the three affected leaders, challenged their removal and sought to maintain the status quo pending the tribunal’s decision. Their legal argument emphasized the lack of due process in their dismissal, as well as the political motivations behind the move. The PPDT’s ruling underscores the importance of following proper procedures in party and assembly leadership changes, while also protecting the rights of elected leaders from arbitrary actions.

In his remarks, Speaker Kinengo congratulated Hon. Harrison Maluki, Hon. Bonface Mukwate, and Hon. Godfrey Ndagara for their successful appeal and encouraged them to continue discharging their duties diligently. “I take this opportunity to congratulate Hon. Harrison Maluki, Hon. Bonface Mukwate, and Hon. Godfrey Ndagara on their affirmation by the Political Parties Dispute Tribunal and wish them continued success as they discharge their duties in their respective leadership roles,” he said. The ruling now paves the way for renewed unity and stability within the Assembly’s Majority side.
