Kitui County Assembly Resumes Session with Focus on Governance and Budgetary Accountability

The County Assembly of Kitui has resumed the 3rd session on Tuesday, 7th May 2024. Members reconvened after a brief recess in April 2024, ready to continue their legislative duties.

Chairing the session, Speaker Hon. Kevin Kinengo Katisya set the tone with a poignant reminder of the weighty responsibility bestowed upon the members by the electorate. He urged them to uphold dignity and transparency in their endeavors, emphasizing the significance of their constitutional mandate.

Acknowledging the commitment demonstrated by members thus far, the Speaker expressed gratitude for their dedication to fulfilling their obligations to the people of Kitui. This recognition underscored the importance of unity and cooperation within the assembly to effectively address the needs of the county.

A pivotal agenda item of the session was the submission of the proposed Kitui County Annual Budget Estimates for the fiscal year 2024/2025. The Speaker entrusted this crucial task to the County Budget and Appropriations Committee for thorough examination.

This committee’s mandate includes conducting public participation processes, in accordance with constitutional provisions and relevant legislation, to ensure inclusivity and transparency in budgetary decisions. The scrutiny and deliberation of the budget estimates exemplify the assembly’s commitment to responsible governance and accountability to its constituents.
