Kitui County Assembly Speaker, a dynamic youth lawyer, has stirred the political landscape by declaring his intention to run in the next general elections.
This announcement was made in the popular WhatsApp group Kitui Professional Chat (KPC), which includes many prominent figures from Kitui County. At 31 years old, Speaker Kinengo hinted at his political aspirations, stating, “I am still thinking about the seat to contest, but I can assure you that I will be on the ballot.”
Kinengo’s entry into politics was marked by a significant victory when he defeated former Kanu minister George Ndoto to become the Kitui County Assembly Speaker.
He garnered 51 votes, trouncing the incumbent, who only secured six votes. Ndoto, who was seeking a third term, was soundly defeated, showcasing Kinengo’s strong support and political acumen. This victory has cemented his reputation as a formidable and influential leader in the county.
Beyond his role as speaker, Kinengo has a history of political involvement and advocacy. He disclosed that he volunteered for Wiper party leader Kalonzo Musyoka for five years starting in 2014 before being employed by former Makueni Governor Kivutha Kibwana as a liaison officer and advisor.
Moreover, Kinengo was among the advocates hired to represent Azimio la Umoja in the petition challenging the election of President William Ruto, further demonstrating his legal prowess and dedication to public service.
This revelation has generated significant excitement among the group members, many of whom have expressed their support for Kinengo. His leadership skills have been widely praised, and several members have already endorsed him for the senatorial position in the 2027 elections.
Additionally, others have suggested that Kinengo could be a strong running mate in the gubernatorial race. Given his roots in the Mwingi region, supporters believe that his candidacy could bolster regional representation and enhance electoral success.
