Kitui County Embarks on Data Collection to Enhance Service Delivery

379

Kitui County, led by Governor Julius Malombe, will be launching an extensive data collection initiative aimed at improving service delivery across the region. The project targets Mwingi, Kitui municipality, and other major towns to assess the adequacy of current services and address specific community needs through data-driven governance.

Dr. Stephen Mbaya, Kitui County Minister for Agriculture and the team leader of the exercise, emphasized the county’s commitment to evidence-based decision-making, urging residents to actively participate. “Enumerators will be joined by village administrators, ward administrators, and National Government Administration officers to ensure the process is thorough and credible,” he said during interviews held at the Kitui Agricultural Training Center.

This collaborative approach is designed to build trust within the community and improve transparency, aligning with the county government’s goals of accountability. According to Dr. Mbaya, the data collection will be an ongoing exercise, with future rounds planned to reassess service adequacy as needs evolve. A major component of the initiative will focus on identifying business types in Kitui County and the services needed to support local economic growth.

Reliable data will enable Kitui County to allocate resources more effectively, particularly in healthcare, education, infrastructure, and social services. “Data-driven decision-making ensures that projects are relevant, reducing the likelihood of resources being directed toward areas that may not yield maximum benefit for the community,” Dr. Mbaya added.

Ultimately, the county’s approach to building a robust data infrastructure is expected to support long-term growth and address inequalities. By continually assessing service adequacy, Kitui County aims to create a more conducive environment for businesses, improve residents’ quality of life, and foster sustainable development across the region.

Waziri Mbaya was joined by his counterparts in the Ministries of Trade (Rose Mutuku), Culture (Phoebe Mutemi), Roads (Eng. Reuben Itiko), and Environment (John Mwendandu), as well as Chief Officers Lynn Kitwan (Public Health) and Henry Nyamai (Energy) among other senior county officers
