The Ministry of Health and Sanitation, under the leadership of Waziri Ruth Koki, is conducting countywide Beyond Zero Mobile Clinics integrated outreach services. Through the Department of Public Health and Sanitation, the initiative aims to bring essential healthcare services closer to communities, particularly in underserved areas. The outreach program, which began last week, is being implemented across four sub-counties: Kitui Rural, Kitui East, Mwingi Central, and Mwingi North. These mobile clinics are designed to enhance access to healthcare and address various medical needs at the grassroots level.
The integrated outreach services offer a wide range of medical interventions, ensuring holistic care for residents. Some of the key services provided include gender-based violence support, breast and cervical cancer screening, and essential pharmacy and laboratory services such as dispensing drugs and diabetes screening. Additionally, antenatal and postnatal care, immunization services, family planning, health promotion, and screening for non-communicable diseases such as hypertension and mental health conditions are also available. This comprehensive approach ensures that multiple health needs are addressed in a single visit, improving health outcomes for the local population.
The outreach program officially commenced in Kitui Rural, running from January 27th to January 31st, 2025. This week, the Beyond Zero Mobile Clinic has moved to Kitui East, ensuring continued service delivery to the community. The schedule for the week includes visits to Zombe/Mwitika Ward at Mavia Maiyu on February 5th, Endau Malalani Ward at Makuka on February 6th, and Chuluni Ward at Kitho on February 7th. These scheduled visits enable residents in different locations to access vital health services conveniently.
This initiative aligns with Governor Malombe’s manifesto, which prioritizes delivering quality healthcare services to the people of Kitui County. By taking medical services closer to the communities, the outreach program reinforces the county government’s commitment to improving healthcare accessibility and outcomes. The mobile clinics not only address immediate health concerns but also promote long-term wellness through preventive screenings and health education. Through these efforts, the Ministry of Health and Sanitation continues to make significant strides in enhancing public health services across Kitui County.
GBV cases are on an upward trend in Kitui County and in order to identify survivors and strengthen referral pathways, the County has moved with speed to conduct mobile clinic outreach services.
The activity is supported by the County Government of Kitui through the Department of Health and Sanitation in partnership with the Ministry of Health – State Department of Medical Services – GBV Program.
