Ministry of East Africa Community, Arid and Semi Arid Lands and Regional Development headed by Cabinet Secretary HE Penina Malonza (EGH) distributed over 1500 bags of both rice and beans to cushion majority of Kitui people whom are peasant farmers after their crops were washed away by the heavy downpour.
CS Malonza promised to pull more resources targeting Kitui County to bring equity to the region so much marginalized for decades.
Kitui Rural locals of Mbusyani, Mosa, Katwala, Mbitini, Kitungati, and of Mwingi West areas like Thokoa, Kisovo, Kiomo and Ngongoni could not hold their excitement following CS Malonza arrival saying they have never hosted a cabinet secretary.
Kitui County is among the nine counties in alarm drought phase with Kitui south, Kitui East, Mwingi Central, Mwingi North sub counties being the most affected, distribution of relief food to various areas across the county is to ease the burden of starvation in families. ” said Malonza.
The CS assured the locals that the government will continue to distribute relief foods alongside doing whatever it takes in this regard to safeguard vulnerable communities against drought impaction.
CS also directed the chiefs and their assistants that women, children, the youth and people living with disabilities be prioritised during the food distribution.
