On Tuesday, August 6, 2024, Dr. Stephen Mbaya Kimwele, Kitui Executive for Agriculture and Livestock, urged farmers across the county to commence early preparations for the upcoming October-December rains.

He emphasized the importance of these preparations during his visit to the Agricultural Mechanization Services (AMS) facility, where he inspected ongoing tractor repair works. Dr. Kimwele’s call to action aims to ensure that farmers are ready to maximize the benefits of the crucial rainy season.

During his visit to the AMS facility, Dr. Kimwele highlighted the need for farmers to take advantage of the subsidized services provided by the county’s AMS. These services are specifically designed to enhance agricultural productivity, offering farmers the tools and support necessary to optimize their yields.

By utilizing these services, farmers can ensure their fields are well-prepared for planting as soon as the rains begin, thus boosting overall agricultural output.

Dr. Kimwele emphasized the financial and practical benefits of the subsidized mechanization services. He noted that these services not only save costs but also significantly increase efficiency and yield. By preparing early and utilizing the available resources, farmers can expect better productivity and improved livelihoods.

This strategic approach aligns with the county administration’s broader goals of supporting agricultural development and economic growth.

During his tour of the AMS facility, Dr. Kimwele assessed the readiness of the tractors and other equipment, expressing satisfaction with the progress made. He reassured farmers of the county administration’s commitment to their support, highlighting various initiatives aimed at boosting agricultural output.

Dr. Kimwele’s visit underscores the administration’s dedication to ensuring that farmers are well-equipped to meet the challenges and opportunities presented by the upcoming rainy season.

Accompanying Dr. Kimwele on his tour were Chief Officer Gladys Kivoto (Agriculture & Fisheries), Dorcus Ileve (Manager AMS), and Eng. Victor Marende, among other officers. Their presence demonstrated a unified front in the county’s efforts to support and promote agricultural activities.

This collaborative approach aims to ensure that Kitui County farmers are fully prepared for the October-December rains, setting the stage for a successful planting season.
