Kitui County Ministry of Health and Sanitation has received a consignment of essential drugs and non-pharmaceutical supplies worth KES 56 million from the Mission for Essential Drugs and Supplies (MEDS). The supplies, which arrived on Tuesday, 18th February 2025, will be distributed across all health facilities in the county to enhance service delivery and ensure uninterrupted medical care for residents. This initiative aims to address medicine shortages and improve healthcare access, particularly in remote and underserved areas.
Speaking during the reception of the consignment, Chief Officer for Drugs and Medical Supplies, Aggrey Kamba, emphasized the importance of a steady supply of medicines in delivering quality healthcare. He reassured residents that the county government remains committed to strengthening healthcare services by ensuring hospitals, health centers, and dispensaries are well-stocked. “The availability of essential medicines is key to delivering quality healthcare. This consignment will help improve patient care in our health facilities,” Kamba stated.
This latest delivery follows a previous consignment from the Kenya Medical Supplies Authority (KEMSA), reinforcing the county’s efforts to keep its health facilities adequately supplied. The partnership with MEDS and KEMSA aligns with Kitui Governor Dr. Julius Malombe’s manifesto, which prioritizes access to quality healthcare for all residents. His administration has consistently worked towards improving medical infrastructure, staffing, and the supply of essential drugs to enhance health service delivery.
The county government of Kitui continues to collaborate with key stakeholders to ensure sustained improvement in the health sector. By securing reliable medical supplies, the county aims to minimize drug shortages, improve patient outcomes, and boost overall public health. This initiative is part of a broader strategy to strengthen healthcare systems and provide efficient, accessible, and affordable medical services to the people of Kitui.
