Kitui county through The Ministry of Health kicks of second phase of polio vaccination

Kitui county through The Ministry of Health kicks of second phase of polio vaccination in the entire county targeting children under 5years of age.

Kitui County through the Ministry of health and Sanitation is set to launch the second phase of Polio immunization drive targeting children under the age of  5 years  is set to begin on Saturday, 11th to 15th November 2023.

The ministry is committed committed to ensure full protection of children and stop transmission of Polio virus where by health teams will be moving from house to house and various health centers and outreach clinics as well as places of worship to ensure maximum coverage across the entire Kitui county.

Polio is a very serious disease caused by Polio virus that can paralyse and even cause death. Polio enters the body through water or food that has been contaminated with Polio virus and spreads very easily throughout communities.

Speaking during stakeholders meeting on Thursday 9th November 2023 held at Kitui County Referral Hospital, Madam Beatrice Charles Health Officer said every child under 5 years is under risk and must be vaccinated to boost immune system against Polio because there is no cure but there are safe and effective vaccines to prevent Polio.

In her speech, Polio Champion Madam Christine Ngina urged all people including Kavonokya to embrace the exercise. Adding that prevention is better than cure and all vaccines offered by the ministry of health are tested, safe, effective and approved by World Health Organization(WHO).

“Polio is a serious disease that has no cure and can cause sudden weakening of hands or legs like mine or both with no history of injury and can even cause death so let’s come in masses to get our children vaccinated”, she concluded.

The stakeholders meeting was attended by County Commissioner officials, WHO officials, County Officials, members of the Press, clergymen, members of the public, CBO representatives etc.
