In a bid to empower the youth and nurture their talents, Kitui East philanthropist Sammy Mutea sponsored the Sammy Mutea Tournament Cup held at Kasunguni School Playgrounds in Zombe Mwitika Ward.
The event attracted participants and spectators from across the area, marking a successful celebration of youth talent and community spirit. The tournament featured competitive football matches, with local teams vying for the top prize while showcasing their skills.
Spartans FC emerged as the champions of the tournament, securing a cash prize of Ksh 50,000, a trophy, a new jersey, and a football. Ngungi FC, who finished as runners-up, received Ksh 20,000, a jersey, and a ball, while Kasunguni FC, in third place, were awarded Ksh 10,000, a jersey, and a ball.
Kimangau FC took fourth place, earning Ksh 6,000, a jersey, and a ball, while the fifth-place team walked away with Ksh 3,000, a jersey, and a ball. Teams finishing in positions six through twelve were each rewarded with Ksh 2,000 and a jersey.
The closely contested matches saw Kasunguni FC defeating Kikangau FC on penalties, while Spartans FC edged out Ngungi FC in a penalty shootout.
