The number of missing people in pastor Paul Mackenzie’s Shakahola forest cult has been rising as a family in Katyethoka, Kitui County is living in agony after Six family members are feared dead after joining the Shakahola cult led by Paul Mackenzie Nthenge, who urged his followers to starve to death in order to find God.
Speaking to Hopkin Digital, Pastor Shem Umba the father and Margaret Shem the mother revealed that the six including two daughters aged 36 and 33 years and four grandchildren below twelve years of age left home at Katyethoka Village in Kitui County to join their husbands who used to live in Likoni Mombasa where they joined Good News International Church in 2019.
“The last time we spoke was on 15th March 2023 and she told me that they were okay and waiting to meet Jesus and from that day her mobile phone went off and I have never heard from her again,” said Shem.
Pastor Shem lamented that his daughter started behaving weirdly after joining the controversial church years ago after she was introduced to it by a friend.
Shem noted that he kept on warning his daughters against joining the cult, which fueled wrangles in the family, where they said to be left to worship where they want.
