Kitui Governor Dr. Julius Malombe has reaffirmed his commitment to creating an enabling business environment for investors in the county. Speaking at a local investor’s sensitization conference at the county headquarters, Governor Malombe outlined his administration’s strategic measures to attract local investments.
These include implementing predictable tax regimes, enhancing infrastructure, improving street and market lighting, and enacting policies favorable to business growth.
Governor Malombe emphasized the county’s plans to establish a county aggregation and industrial park. This initiative is a crucial component of Kitui’s contribution to the industrialization agenda outlined in the fourth medium-term plan of Kenya Vision 2030.
The industrial park is expected to drive significant industrial growth and economic development in the region, providing a structured environment for manufacturing and processing industries to flourish.
The Governor assured investors that the county government would not use public funds to compete with private enterprises. He highlighted that the role of the government is to create a fair and competitive business landscape rather than becoming a market player itself.
This approach aims to ensure that private investors can operate without fear of undue competition from the government, fostering a healthier investment climate.
Dr. Malombe stressed the importance of using public funds to support essential public services and infrastructure rather than direct investment in businesses. “Government is not an investor. We have seen billions of public funds going to waste when the government invests.
Public funds are meant to support public goods like roads, water, electricity, and safe borders, among others,” he stated. This policy underscores the government’s role in creating a supportive backdrop for private sector growth.
The sensitization conference aimed to inform local investors about the numerous investment opportunities available in Kitui County. This event is a precursor to the Kitui County International Investors Conference, set to take place later this year.
The conference represents a strategic effort to attract both local and international investors, showcasing Kitui’s potential as a prime investment destination.
